Philosophy
Hope Organics believes that one of the biggest things anyone can do to change the world is to change where they shop. Everything we buy creates the world we live in. Every dollar we spend supports a company or individual that may or may not be aligned with our values. If we want the world to change it has to start with us.
Vision
Hope Organics’ vision is to help reduce pesticide and other synthetic chemical usage worldwide and to help grow the whole organic market. To achieve this vision, we will help consumers understand:
– how you can reduce toxic chemicals in your life by changing where you shop
– that by buying organic you help more farmers to convert to organic, sustainable, fair-trade farming.
Giving Back Hope
Initiatives we support
1) The Global Alliance for Seed Freedom (Community seed banks, and education on organic farming )
2) Loans to organic farmers and those who wish to convert to organic farming
Farmers can be found via websites such as:
I would also like to find a program that specifically helps Australian farmers who want to convert from conventional to organic farming.
Future projects
1. To help fund/support the conversion of cotton farming in Australia to some kind of Organic farming
Current cotton farming practices in Australia
- 0% organic cotton farming
- 10% is non-GMO with highly toxic chemicals.
- 90% is GMO and uses glycophosphate
There is currently no organic cotton farming in Australia. 90% of cotton farming in Australia is GMO and uses glycophosphate which is associated with human infertility, birth defects and cancer. Crops are becoming resistant and pesticide usage is increasing.
I would like to investigate better opportunities for cotton farmers in Australia. Apparently organic cotton farming is not possible. Maybe converting to organic hemp (which could then be incorporated in our clothing) would be a viable option, or converting to some other kind of organic farming that fills a gap in the market.
2. Organic Clothing Recycling
Maybe an eBay store where people can sell used organic clothing. To encourage people to buy less and recycle.
The Story of Hope Organics
Hi I am Georgie Hope. I am passionate about making a difference in the world and I know that starts with me. I have always had an interest in organic food and products and am currently on a personal journey to only use organic products where 100% of the ingredients are organic. I only eat organic food at home and when dining out eat organic where possible. I consider every purchase I make in terms of the impact the production may have on the chemicals in the environment—and therefore on people and animals. I am still learning new things everyday and always aiming to make better choices.
My policy is to search for 2nd hand goods—recycled, sustainable or organic products—and only if it’s absolutely impossible to find these do I buy something else (e.g. petrol for my car). I have solar power for my house and I am learning to grow herbs and other food in my garden.
Finding personal care products that are 100% organic can be very difficult. However buying these products instead of other organic or natural products is the only way to be sure you are avoiding pesticides and herbicides. Since I was already doing the research on 100% organic personal care products and wanted a place to store all the information for myself I thought I would create a website so other people can also have the information. In some cases products will contain ingredients that can never be organic such as water, salt, clay, mineral oxides. If that is the case I will let you know in the brief description. You can also see the ingredients list below each product to see exactly what is in them. Some of these products offer Hope Organics affiliate commissions if you buy them and other do not. It’s more important to us to give you the information regardless.
I also started to research delivery options for organic food in my local area. I then created pages on this website for each state in Australia with regards to Organic delivery options.
The Organic Cotton T-Shirt idea came from a desire to have a way for people who are passionate about Organics to express that. Everyday I am learning more about how the organic side of things works for T-Shirts. I have found a manufacturer who creates the shirts and I am very happy with the GOTS certification. But since it may be possible to get organic dyes I am not happy to call the shirts 100% organic. Only if something is absolutely not possible to certify like water, salt, clay, mineral oxides will it be labeled 100% organic.
I believe that by using products that are 100% organic we are helping more farmers to grow organic. We are therefore reducing the toxic load on people, animals and the environment. When we reduce the toxic load in the environment we end up further reducing toxic load on people and animals.
Please do contact me and let me know about any personal care products where 100% of the ingredients are organic. Also please let me know if you notice that a company has changed it’s ingredients and the product listed on this website is no longer 100% organic. I appreciate any help you can offer.
